INNOVATIVE BIO TECHNOLOGY
Partner of the best companies worldwide

What do BMW, Porsche, Mercedes, Volvo, Magna, Thyssen, Austria Email, Caterpillar and Palfinger have in common? They all count on the Austrian company PROTEC when it comes to the protection of metal parts. The products for welding processes developed by PROTEC are all based on a composition of biological raw materials. For more than ten years PROTEC is successfully selling these products worldwide in cooperation with local partners. A great number of well-known metal-working companies all over the world is convinced by the excellent product quality and benefits. Many industries like the automotive industry, the crane industry as well as the shipyard industry are meanwhile applying the highly efficient Bio Anti-Spatter Lotions and Contact Lubricants from PROTEC.

Product development
For a non-expert, welding seems to be a basic process. In reality this joining process has a major importance for the final quality of the product. Whether ATV, truck, luxury car or crane - we talk about the exact joining of metal parts which not only guarantees utmost safety but also perfect looks. Managing Director, inventor and founder of PROTEC, Hans Hoffmann: "During the early 90's the existing anti-spatters were prohibited by law out of ecological reasons. Welders could only choose between highly explosive sprays and inappropriate biological anti-spatters. We recognized this problem and developed the unique and patented PROTEC formula in 1994 in cooperation with pilot users. This lotion forms an alpha coating and combines protection against spatters and uncomplicated cleaning in a matchless way. No refinish is necessary, which means cost savings for the company bottom line. Today PROTEC's Metallotion CE15L is the best-known insider tip of "Premium Anti-Spatter" products.

Convincing quality: Successful launch locally and internationally
In the years 1994 to 1996 the launch on the local market started with well-known Austrian companies like Austria Email (Enamel), Bombardier, Liebherr, MAN, Palfinger, Pöttinger, Siemens and Steyr Daimler Puch. In 1997 the export phase started with a big bang: A German car manufacturer changed his production of fully galvanized car bodies literally overnight to protect the surfaces with PROTEC. During the following years many manufacturers in Europe, Russia, Japan, Latin America, South Africa, Indonesia, Thailand and China followed their example. Industry-wise the best companies for farm and construction machines, automotive and funicular engineering as well as the shipyard and steel industry discovered PROTEC for their applications.

From invention to practice
Hans Hoffmann, inventor of PROTEC: "Inventing means searching and finding. Thousands of users are looking for improvements in their processes. We analyse their needs and develop new solutions in close cooperation.". In 1997 this paradigm led to the development of a second product family: The wire lubrication system “Welding Wire Balm”. This product removes residues from the welding-wire and guarantees a good and stable friction behaviour. In order to guarantee the exact application of this balm, the Tribo.Cleaning.Station has been developed and internationally patented in 2002. Today, this PROTEC system is used worldwide for wire treatment. Steel, stainless steel, spring steel, copper and brass wire is "super-cleaned" and coated for various applications, in some cases already at wire manufacturers’ level.

About the founder and inventor Hans Hoffmann:
PROTEC's products are directly linked to the history of the founder and inventor Hans Hoffmann. Born 1945 in Jena/Thuringia, he was interested in engineering already in his early childhood. In 1966, he finished Engineering School in Salzburg, Austria. After some years of international experience in well-known German companies, Hans Hoffmann started to build up his own wholesale for welding products in 1975. He worked with Abicor-Binzel as partner for 20 years. In 1989, he had the idea for his first patent, many others followed. We would like to point out the "silver-coated contact tips" which became famous all over the world as Abitip-Plus from Abicor-Binzel. For his inventions, Hans Hoffmann received the Kaplan medal (Austrian medal for innovators and inventors).
